Julie Margaret is a Swiss-American Jazz vocalist, recording artist, lyricist, and composer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The daughter of professional musicians and the granddaughter of an opera singer and organist, Julie's vocal, instrumental, and music theory training began around the same time she was learning to tie her shoes. She later studied with Swiss opera singer Edit Siegfried-Szabo and extensively with soprano Helen Holcombe. She is currently a student of soprano Cheri Montgomery at Vanderbilt's Blair School of Music. Julie's training and versatility is apparent not only in her technique but also in her compositions and arrangements. Creating new music is her first passion. She enjoys fusing Jazz, R&B/Soul, Classical, and Latin styles as she writes about love, heartbreak, renewal of the soul and evolution of the spirit. She has recorded with and written for a diversity of musical groups and artists in Philadelphia, New York, and Miami, from string quartets to DJs and rappers; and has performed in Jazz clubs, symphony halls, and at corporate events. Julie has recorded her original music with Grammy-winning producer and musician Anthony Tidd (The Roots, Black Eyed Peas, Erykah Badu, Fergie, Steve Coleman), which features the principal string section of the Philly Pops and many of the finest studio Jazz and R&B musicians in the country. She often collaborates with lifelong friend Stephen Tirpak (John Legend, The Roots, Lana Del Rey, Jay-Z). A recent Nashville transplant, Julie is finding new inspiration in Southern music traditions while frequently returning to Philadelphia and New York for studio projects, collaborations, and performances.
